Fish is considered to be one of the healthiest types of food. However, some research indicates that not all types of fish are as healthy as we previously thought. It appears that some have high level of mercury, so they are not as healthy and if consumed regularly can also be dangerous to our health. See which are the healthiest and the most dangerous types of fish:

 

 

Rainbow trout

The rainbow trout is one of the most widely consumed types of fish as well as one of the healthiest. Because of its reasonable price the rainbow trout is often on our menu. It is rich in vitamin B12, which is good for the heart.

Salmon

We cannot praise the salmon enough, but it is important to specify which type of salmon we are alluding to. The wild salmon is healthier than the farmed one because it has less saturated fat. In any case, salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.

Catfish

The catfish is another type of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It is also low in mercury. Therefore, the catfish is highly recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Mackerel

The regular consumption of mackerel reduces the risk of developing a heart disease. It is recommended to opt for mackerel coming from the Atlantic and the Pacific because they have lower levels of mercury.

Herring

The herring is another type of fish good for the heart. They are a good source of protein - about 20g of protein in 90 g of herring.

Flounder

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and potassium, the flounder if one of the healthiest types of fish. Besides that, the flounder is delicious in many forms of preparation.

The fishes most dangerous to health

We have all heard that fish is good for health and should be consumed at least twice a week. But are there any types of fish that are not that healthy? Yes, any fish that have high levels of mercury. That is why the following fishes should be consumed with extra caution, especially by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Among the worst fish to eat are the Chilean Sea bass, the shark, the swordfish and the red meat tuna.
