HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT WITH FISH
06/02/2020
Fish is efficient food for losing weight because it has little calories but high nutritional value. It is also believed that eating fish regularly has many benefits to health, e.g. lower risk of high blood pressure and heart problems and lower cholesterol. People believe that a diet rich in fish is one of the secrets to longevity.
Why not change meat for fish! Start with eating fish once a day. Instead of having a steak, have a fish fillet with veggies on the side. After a few weeks, start eating fish twice a week and continue increasing your fish consumption in this manner until you reach the ideal case of eating fish four times a week.
Cook the fish in a healthy way!
Fish is good for you, but not if you deep-fry it. We'd recommend that you grill or bake it. And if you insist on having that crispy crust, fry the fish in a non-sticky frying pan in one or two spoonfuls of olive oil.
Add oily fish to your menu! They have unsaturated fats (which we have all heard about) which are very good for the heart. There are also omega-3 fatty acids in oily fish which contribute further to a healthy heart. The best in this group are mackerel, salmon and trout. It is also believed that the protein in oily fish regulates the appetite and, as a result, you eat less.
Add fibre to your fish-rich menu to create an explosion of beneficial nutrients for dinner. The easiest way to achieve this is through the side dish. Choose veggies rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, like broccoli, string beans and carrots. Even having some plain potatoes roasted with fresh herbs can give you a good amount of vitamin C.
Advice on eating fish
- Eat different types of fish. Alternate between them and make your menu variegated with an array of salads, fish soups and sushi.
- If possible, buy fresh fish instead of frozen. When you are choosing the fish, check its eyes - if they are clear, the fish is fresh.
- Eat younger fish - they are considered to be less likely to have accumulated harmful chemicals
- Avoid eating swordfish and albacore tuna because they are more likely to have higher levels of mercury
